Meet The Artist
Charlotte:
Charlottes likes to go out partying and having fun with friends. On the odd occasion she will go out to legal raves and festivals when she has got the money to fund it. Charlotte enjoys her music with her favourite genre of music being Dance/House music, this is because the music is all up beat. She also likes to go dancing which she performs at. Charlottes favourite artist at the moment is David Guetta, as her creates alot of Commercial House.
Charlotte dislikes rock music as she thinks it is scary and doesn't like all the screaming that is performed in Heavy Metal Bands. She also doesn't like being upset as she doesnt see the point in being upset.

Setting and Location, props and costume
Location scouting
Our initial thoughts and ideas for our drum and bass music video, were thought up through our survey given to people around the age of 16-25 year olds, they wanted to see things such as city and party life. We also found our peoples favourite drum and bass song of 2014 which resulted in our song choice of changing by sigma feat Paloma Faith. After writing a list of locations that are fun and busy, we resulted in going to London for the day, and going to the embankment bridge to give our audience what they want, a young girl trying to find fun in the city, the skate park scene appeals to our target audience because of the bright colours in the background. Another location we wanted to use was the busy bridge at embankment, we were lucky enough to see some buskers on the bridge that Charlotte could dance around and we could film. Our second main location we chose as a group was to walk to Covent Garden and explore the cobbled streets. As we thought, a lot was going on and there were lots of opportunities for Charlotte to sing and dance around.
The reason why we left all the shooting to London and maybe use some of our holiday footage from New York, Barbados and St. Lucia, is because we wanted to keep it fun and simple we don't want to confuse our audience with different locations all over the place.
Costume designs
Choosing our costume ideas for our main star Charlotte was the easy part of our music video. Our questionnaire helped us choose the style to support our drum and bass video, as our target audience said they want to see bright colours and fashionable clothes. Charlotte was styled in black topshop jeans, and a bright blue and purple cropped button up topshop blouse, she also wore her topshop coat to finish the outfit, we used this look for the embankment bridge scene. Her hair was wavy to give a careless beach look. She wore basic makeup but wore a bright pink Mac lipstick to bring out her green eyes.
The second outfit, consisted of the same black jeans and a yellow cropped Cami, she also put over the top a ragged priest spiked limited edition denim jacket. We dressed Charlotte in this for the skate park scene to contrast with the bright colours behind her.
Finally Charlotte changed her top to a blue cropped Cami to contrast with her background of the red painted wall.

Inspirations and influences
Our inspirations for our music video came from the video of the song that we choose to do. This is because in the video its bright coloured and shows alot of happiness, between Paloma Faith and other dancers and actors. Hideaway by Kiesza influenced us in to where are locations are going to be as she is seen dancing infront of graffitti which gave us the idea that we could do something like this to show that bright colours.
The costume ideas came from hideaway again as Kiesza is wearing crop top and jeans, this shows that she is ready to either go to a party or to go raving. We also got ideas from the song itself as in the video Paloma Faith is wearing a bright coloured dress and skirt that match.
From the results of the our questionnaire it shows that most peoples favourite dance song of 2014 so far is Sigmas changing featuring Paloma Faith. The results of our questionnaires are what influenced us to do this song as we already knew that we was going to do a dance kind of song and from the results we choose the song that was most liked by the target auideince.
Out of the 4 songs that we put on our questionnaire, which included Changing, Love Too Deep, Changes and Won't Look Back. Changing scored 57% out the votes which shows that it is the most popular song out of the 4 that were on choice.
Also with the questionnaire we found out that most people would see "slutty" costumes in a Drum and Bass video.

Intended Institution
After deciding that the genre of our music video is drum and bass. We have come to the conclusion that our music video showed be shown on MTV dance channel, as the song is a lively party scene song. We have decided this because most of the people that watch MTV dance have an age range of 15-30, this is the target audience that we was aiming at. After our focus group we asked the question of what music channels do you listen to and with the replies the majority of people listen to MTV with others saying that they listened to 4music. We didn't want to go with VIVA as they also show a lot of TV programmes as well, we did not choose this as it would give us less chances of our video being shown on TV. With our music video being played on MTV it means that we will be able to see how well it does it not just the top 40 but also in the top 20 dance chart.

Codes And Convention of a Chosen Music Video - Alex Clare 'Too Close'
Mise-En-Scene
The mise-en-scene of this music video is that it is based in an abandoned warehouse, this shows that the song is either a quite sad song as the colours and backgrounds are dull or the song is about someone close to the artist. The dark colours in the video represent sadness and that death is either present or has occured.
Backgound of the song
The song was written by Alex Clare in the memory of his late friend Amy Winehouse, the song was written after the death of Amy Winehouse, in her rememberance, as she had passed away from a drug overdose, which made him realise what he had lost.
Narrative
The narrative of the song shows two samari's fighting with wooden swords. With the samari's fighting it has to have one of them come out on top which it does, this represents the fight that Amy Winehouse was having with drugs. With one samari having to win it shows that the drugs came out on top and took Amy Winehouse's life, this is represented in the music video.
Camera Work
The camera work in the music video has a lot of long shots to show the pair fighting, but when there are close ups it is of one of the samari's getting struck with a sowrd. There are more close up of Alex Clares face this is to show the sadness he has for his late friend. With the close ups on Alex Clare they come around when it he is talking about 'quitting' this is showing that he doesn't want the same to happen to him that happened to Amy Winehouse.

Seeking Permission
We have Emailed the record company 3Beat to ask for conformation of the music we have chosen for our music video. The song we have chosen is 'Changing' by Sigma and Paloma Faith.

History of the Artist
The artist that we have decided to use is Sigma. Sigma are two DJ's from the Drum and bass scene of music, the two DJ's met at a drum and bass night at Leeds University. After university the pair of them relocated to London, and brought in another member to the group whihc is an old school friend of Edwards. The group were then signed under DJ Fresh's label Breakbeat Kaos. After problems with travelling to the student the new memeber to the group left as it was too much hassle to get to hertfordshire from surrey and back so he left the group.
In 2008 the pair of them created their own music label called Life Recordings. In the summer of 2013 the duo signed for 3beat Records by this time they had already remixed tracks of artists such as Ellie Goulding, Eric Prydz, Groove Armada, Skepta and Sway.
The duo didn't breakthrough on to the UK top 40 until they released the single "nobody to love", this song was the duo's breakthrough point as they topped the charts with this single. After the single "Nobody to Love" they released a free single called divine which was free to download upon release. After the success of "Nobody to Love", it then followed with their next single "Changing" which was written by Ella Eyere and sung by Paloma Faith, this single carried on the duo's success in the UK as it topped both the UK chart and the uk dance chart.

What is a music video?
What is a music video?
A music video is a way that record companies sell their artist and the song to the general public or their target auidence, this is a useful way as it helps to increase the sale of the song and other songs created by that artist. Music videos are there to represent the feel of the song so if it is a sad song the backgrounds will be dull and will have no party scenes, where as if the song is up beat and has a happy vibe about it then the video is going to be bright coloured and have lots of party scenes. Sometimes the music video won't feature the artist at all but will have animations of the character they want to represent.
